Observation Narrative
Plot on crest of low ridge about 20 m north of trail. Sugar maple is widespread in this general area (Sugar Land) due to fertile, granitic derived soils. This plot, like a few others from granitic sites, contains very high soil P, the cause of which and the ecological implications has yet to be determined. A Peaks of Otter Salamander was found in the plot. They are rather uncommon here. Plot is similar to #G26. Measured trees (dbh in cm.): Quercus rubra (46.9), Tilia americana (41.8), Acer saccharum (34.9), Fraxinus americana (41.5)
